Ingredients:
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon red food coloring (liquid or gel)
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon white vinegar
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
Optional: Cream cheese frosting for topping
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper and set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and sugar. Mix until well combined.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, mix in the vanilla extract and red food coloring until the mixture is evenly colored.
In a separate small bowl, mix together the cocoa powder, salt, and white vinegar to form a paste.
Add the cocoa paste to the butter mixture and stir until fully incorporated.
Gradually add the flour to the batter, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
If using nuts, fold them into the batter until evenly distributed.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it out evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs, but not wet batter.
Remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
Once cooled, optionally frost the brownies with cream cheese frosting and slice into squares.
